2018 IFB Issues Tour to Argentina/Brazil

January 27-February 4, 2018

Apply _now

Qualified farmers are invited to apply for IFB's 2018 Issue Tour to Argentina/Brazil.

The objectives of the 2018 tour are to: 1) see how and where South American producers are out-competing American farmers, 2) determine the major factors enhancing South American competitiveness (e.g., investment in infrastructure, R&D, and biofuels programs and more streamlined regulatory processes) and 3) develop effective leaders willing to be active spokespersons on those issues at the state and national level.

Participants will likely depart Illinois on Saturday, January 27 and return on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

All applicants must:

  1. Fund a portion of the cost ($2,500) of the trip.
  2. Seek and receive the support and possible sponsorship of his/her county Farm Bureau for $1,500-$2,500 towards the trip (to be determined by CFB).
  3. Be in excellent health (e.g., able to walk at least 2 miles per day; comfortably tolerate changes in food, water, and weather; and able to tolerate an 8-9 hour flight).
  4. Be willing and able to show or obtain at your own cost:
    • A passport valid through March 1, 2019 or obtain one by December 1, 2017.
    • Give 5 presentations (PowerPoint to be provided) to local, county, district, and state venues) upon return from the trip.
    • Give 8-10 media interviews (before, during and after the trip).
    • Remain active as a leader/spokesperson for IFB on Issues Tour topics.
  5. Be willing and able to:
    • Participate in a pre-trip briefing (conference call).
    • Attend a mandatory 1-day briefing in Bloomington prior to the trip.

Airfare, meals, ground transportation, and 8 nights lodging are covered in the Issues Tour fee. Individual participants are responsible for incidental expenses (passport fee, VISA for Brazil, phone calls, souvenirs, etc.). To be considered for the Argentina/Brazil Issues Tour, please complete the application as soon as possible and click SUBMIT. A copy of your application will then be sent to your local county Farm Bureau. IFB’s deadline for applications is Monday, November 13 at 4:00 p.m. This means you should plan to submit your application the week prior to the deadline (or earlier) so your CFB may consider possible sponsorship.
