The updated Soybean Ag Mag has arrived! Kevin Daugherty, Illinois Farm Bureau education director, says it's already hitting the stands (and a classroom) near you. The Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom Ag Mags are colorful agricultural magazines geared towards kids.
How do you get kids excited about soybeans? According to Daugherty, with fun articles like Watch It Grow and Pod to Plate. "There's also helpful information on soybean production, processing and distribution," he said, "and even a soybean timeline."
"The issue is chocked full of ideas for teachers to use in their lessons," he added. In the Beanie Baby activity, students can grow their own soybeans. The Career Corner section features interviews with people who work with soybeans.
The Soybean Ag Mag is sponsored by the Illinois Soybean Association, Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom, and Illinois Farm Bureau's IAA Foundation. Ag Mags are free to Illinois teachers through their county Farm Bureaus.
