2014 Master Showmanship Recap

The 2014 Master Showmanship Contest was held on August 8 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.  Fifty-one exhibitors, winners of their respective county contests, competed for the title of “Illinois Master Showman”.

Illinois Farm Bureau's (IFB) Youth Education in Agriculture (YEA!) program coordinates this event. Jenny Jackson, IFB Youth Ambassador, was in charge of this year's contest. "I am honored to have had the opportunity to showcase such talent among young people in the livestock industry. Illinois Farm Bureau supports youth and leadership development in many programs, such as 4-H. We are happy to award such hard working, and driven youth."

Exhibitors were judged on their handling of each of three species of animals;  beef, sheep and swine.  Then they were quizzed by the judges on their knowledge of animal husbandry and livestock production.  One winner was named for each species and scores for all three species were tallied to determine the overall winner. Over $8,000 worth of prizes donated by sponsors were given away this year to the winners and all participants.
