A three-day program from the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) offers an information-packed agenda for those who want to expand their leadership roles. The Illinois Farm Bureau Leadership Academy will be held on Monday-Wednesday, July 14-16, at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, Springfield. This is the third year for the program, which is held twice a year. The academy is open to 10-12 county Farm Bureau leaders who have shown involvement in agriculture, Farm Bureau, and their community.

According to Dave Stille, Training and Development, Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB), the IFB Leadership Academy is a quality leadership development and networking opportunity for county Farm Bureau leaders who want to advance and expand their skills. "It's a compact three-day program, but provides a real 'bang for your buck.' It is intense learning packed into a powerful agenda," he said.

What it is:

  • 3-day training program
  • Held every other year
  • Small, personal setting with hands-on activities
  • Learn from the best - a select group of instructors

Who it is for:

  • County presidents, board members, committee chairs, or other outstanding leaders
  • Must be nominated by County Board of Directors
  • Maximum of 3 applications per year per Farm Bureau

Topics that are covered:

  • How your temperament determines your leadership style
  • Issue Management
  • Consumer Communications and building trust in farming
  • Media Relations Skills
  • State Agency Round-table Discussion
  • Ethics
  • Insights into the Mind of an Elected Official
  • Effective Lobbying
  • Inner Workings of Decision Making

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of three judges from each of these categories - academia, past IAA Board member, and agri-business community.  Their scores will then be forwarded to the IAA Board's MSPR committee for the final selection.

Your investment, if chosen, is $500 - a small price to pay for the experience and knowledge you gain from the program. Illinois Farm Bureau covers the remainder of expenses for the academy.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 16. You will be notified about selection by mid-May.
