The 2014 Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) "Marketers to Washington" trip is set for August 11-14. The trip will focus on crop and livestock marketing, risk management, government farm programs, trade, and regulatory and economic issues. One of the highlights will be a visit to USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) to learn how the crop report is assembled and to participate in its official lockup and release.
Doug Yoder, Senior Director of Affiliate & Risk Management for IFB, pointed out that this “Marketers to Washington” trip will be considerably different from the “Leaders to Washington” trips, since it will not include any legislative activity due to the Congressional summer recess. "All of our efforts will be focused on understanding marketing and regulatory issues through visits to several government agencies," he said.
According to Yoder, trip candidates would be those involved in their county Farm Bureaus who would like to understand the further development and implementation of Farm Bureau policy into national legislation and federal regulations. "They should also be willing to support Farm Bureau policy during meetings with federal agencies," he added. Also important to note - the group will do a lot of walking at a fast pace.
Here's the breakdown on applicant acceptance:
Due to space and restrictions, spouses and immediate family members may not participate in the same trip.
