The Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader (YL) Committee is getting set for a big weekend.

“The Young Leader Committee is excited to be hosting our state Discussion Meet during the (IFB) Annual Meeting,” said Renee Deuth, YL program manager, told the RFD Radio Network®.

Twenty-six participants will compete in the meet, which starts Saturday morning at the Palmer House in Chicago. The winner will be announced Sunday morning.

“And that’s where we will recognize all of our young leader award winners throughout the year, but we’ll also then announce the winner of the Discussion Meet,” Deuth said.

The winner of the state Discussion Meet will represent Illinois at the national meet at American Farm Bureau Federation’s Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn., in January.

“For some of these young leaders that are competing, this might be their first annual meeting, or the Discussion Meet might be the reason they come for the first few times,” Deuth said. “Ideally, they’re going to be developing themselves into some of the future leaders of our organization.”
