This year's Governmental Affairs Leadership Conference, themed "Powered by Farmers," returns to downtown Springfield.

Farm Bureau members’ engagement in politics and policy remains crucial, and the Illinois Farm Bureau Governmental Affairs Leadership Conference March 14-15 offers opportunities for both, said Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert Jr.
“We have always encouraged our members to be engaged in politics,” Guebert said.
The two-day event returns to the Bank of Springfield Center, formerly known as the Prairie Capitol Convention Center, Springfield. A statewide legislative reception will start at 6 p.m. in the ballroom of the nearby President Abraham Lincoln Springfield Hotel.
This year’s Powered By Farmers conference offers a slate of political and policy issues in general and breakout sessions.
Guebert noted the 2018 elections are especially important in Illinois given the number of incumbent state lawmakers who are not running for their seats.
“There will be a lot of new candidates,” Guebert said. “Farm Bureau members need to get to know these candidates, where they stand on issues and develop a relationship with them.”
“Secondly, at the legislative reception, you will have an opportunity to thank those legislators for their support and to share your views with them,” he continued.
County Farm Bureau leaders are encouraged to invite their local and adopted legislators to attend the reception.
The registration fee is $75 for both days or $50 for both days for collegiate Farm Bureau members. Registration must be completed through county Farm Bureaus.
For the conference, a special rate for a block of hotel rooms is offered until Feb. 20 or until those rooms are reserved, whichever occurs first. Hotel reservations must be completed online.
