Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leaders are seeking participants for Brazil Ag Industry Tour November 9-17, 2013.
The Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leaders are heading to Brazil for the 2013 Ag Industry Tour. The trip is set for November 9 through 17. Any IFB Young Leaders (member 18-35 years of age and passionate about agriculture) may join the tour.
Each year the Young Leaders travel to a different destination to experience agriculture outside of Illinois, and in this case, even the country! Through their journeys, they hope to learn more about agriculture, improve their marketing skills and boost their farm income.
"We are really switching it up this year," said Jennifer Smith, IFB Young Leader Manager. "In the past, we've stuck closer to home, so this is an exciting opportunity for everyone and we are thrilled to be able to offer it."
Agriculture in Brazil continues to grow. Brazil is second only to the United States in soybean production. This tour offers our future farm leaders an opportunity to see complete crop production in this emerging country. With their warm climate, double cropping is common, so it's not surprise to see planters following immediately behind harvesters. Crops include soybeans, corn, cotton, wheat, sugar cane and more.
Highlights of the trip include a cruise on the Port of Paranagua, one of the world's most important sea trade centers, as well as visits to grain and cattle operations and several cooperatives. Also included are the Technical Research Institution, agricultural research fields, Iguassu Falls, one of "The Seven Wonders of the Modern World," and Itaipu Dam, the largest hydroelectric generating facility in the world. Throw in a Macuco Safari Tour, a brewery, a ten-story windmill, and The Bird's Park, located on 40 acres of subtropical forest, and you've got a well-rounded, educational, action-packed trip.
Cost of the trip is $2,051 per person, based on double occupancy. This includes motor coach transportation, hotel, tickets and meals. This fee does not include airfare, but the group will fly together. All participants will need a passport and a travel VISA.
There is a limit of 20 participants, so don't delay. Sign up before May 6th through your county Farm Bureau or the Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Department. Begin by downloading:
