Wednesday was the big day for visitors at the Farm Progress Show
and the Illinois Farm Bureau tent was brimming with members eager
to pick up their Saluting Agriculture license plate frame holders
and talk with the ILFB staff. The morning kicked off with the
RFD team broadcasting live from the Beck's Hybrid tent where they
gave away free t-shirts and more license plate frames.
Judging by the number of plate frames given away, several thousand
people stopped by the ILFB tent.
At noon, 29 state legislators gathered at the ILFB tent for a
special luncheon to kick off a tour of the Farm Progress Show.
President Nelson opened the luncheon by giving a talk about the
ILFB's Leadership Cabinet and presented the cabinet with a $1,000
check. At 1:00, the FFA kicked off a live and silent auction.
The live auction featured 150 Titan tires and FFA officials hoped
to beat last year's fundraising record.
The day wrapped up spending one- on-one time with lots of people
who came to the ILFB tent to sit on the benches and cool off.
One retired farmer, Charles, shared a photo of his Ag license
plate, while another sat and waited for his son and daughter in law
and discussed his 40 years of dairy farming and the new technology
of milking robots. Another farmer from the town of Walnut, met an
ILFB staffer from the town of Chestnut and it was decided they were
both "nuts." Many people - families, couple, singles and groups of
friends came by for their free ILFB souvenir photo. The ILFB
slogan, "Farm, Family and Food," came to life today with one
additional word, "friends," reminding everyone that it's not just a
slogan, but a mission.
