Following the awards, keynote speaker, Richard "Pitch" Picciotto, took the stage for an emotional speech- on the 10th anniversary year of 9/11.
When the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed on September 11, 2001, Picciotto, a Fire Department of New York (FDNY) battalion commander, was inside it. He described how he was trapped on a stairwell between the sixth and seventh floors of the second World Trade Center tower that collapsed.
Sniffles could be heard during Picciotto's heartfelt talk, but that sorrow quickly turn to pride as many in the crowd joined in the singing of "Proud to Be an American."
Richard "Pitch" Picciotto is the author of the New York Times bestseller, "Last Man Down."
