Cover crops, nutrient data focus of Bureau County field day

Cover crop research and water test results will be covered Aug. 20 at a Nutrient Field Day sponsored by the Nutrient Stewardship of Northern Illinois, Bureau County Farm Bureau, Illinois Farm Bureau and local partners. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Bureau County Fairgrounds, Princeton. Advance reservations are requested to ensure enough materials are available.

Topics and speakers include drainage law, Garrett Thalgott, IFB; cover crop research, Sarah Carlson, Practical Farmers of Iowa; nutrient loss legislation, Laura Moody, The Fertilizer Institute; regenerative agriculture, Michell Hora, Continuum Ag; and soil health, Jim Isermann, Soil Health Partnership. An update on county field tile tests will be shared.

In addition, the county Farm Bureau will again offer free, confidential nitrate testing of water samples from tiles, streams or ponds that are brought to the event. A complimentary lunch will be served.
