From a silent auction to an ice cream social, the IAA Foundation will host a variety of activities during the Illinois Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting Dec. 7-9 at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago.
As the charitable arm of the IFB, the IAA Foundation serves to fund education, research and charitable activities that benefit Illinois farm families and agriculture throughout the state. One way the organization does this is through initiatives like the Agriculture in the Classroom program. Funds raised by the IAA Foundation during Annual Meeting are applied directly to Illinois counties through this program as grants, trainings and free resources offered to Ag Literacy Coordinators and teachers.
The IAA Foundation will kickstart its charitable campaign at Annual Meeting with a silent auction and Country Store from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s Country Store will feature new items for sale, including IFB branded apparel and the unveiling of a new member gate sign. Breanne Beisiegel, IAA Foundation operations & communications specialist, said she is eager to see what IFB members think of these items.
On Sunday, IAA Foundation highlights include an ice cream social, live auction and a trivia night. The ice cream social is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Jennifer Smith, development manager for the IAA Foundation, said she looks forward to this fun activity because there is often excitement surrounding “celebrity scoopers” who attend the event.
“We draw everybody in with the ice cream social, with donations appreciated, but that’s really the warm-up event for the live auction,” said Smith.
The live auction will begin at 2 p.m., followed by trivia.
“We are excited to announce this year’s long-awaited Trivia Night Theme is ‘Let’s Get Animated’,” said Beisiegel. “So, for those of you planning your costumes and table decorations, think animated movies, cartoons, princesses and superheroes,” she added.
Trivia Night doors will open at 7:30 p.m., with the competition beginning at 8:15 p.m. Last year, the IAA Foundation raised over $23,000 during the activity, and this year the team hopes to match or exceed this amount.
On Monday afternoon, IAA Foundation activities will conclude with the closing of the silent auction and Country Store at 12:10 p.m.
