Ag Specialty Plate Now Available
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
 The specialty license plate
that salutes agriculture is now available. It can be ordered through the
Secretary of State's (SOS) office or at a local driver's license facility. The
plate is available for cars, pick-up trucks, vans, and SUVs.
There is an additional fee
associated with the purchase of a specialty plate, and for every ag specialty
plate sold, $25 of the fee goes to the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom
program (IAITC).
IAITC is a consortium of agriculture and
agricultural-education groups that guides the IAITC activities that provide
resources to hundreds of teachers who then teach tens of thousands of Illinois
school children the importance agriculture plays in their everyday lives.
The new ag specialty plate can be ordered as a
standard plate where the letters and numbers are randomly assigned, or can be
ordered as a vanity plate or personalized plate.
The vanity and personalized
plates can be ordered on line by going to
www.cyberdriveillinois.com. In the lower right hand corner of the page, click on
"pickaplate"
In the left-hand column, click on the vehicle icon upon which plate will be used
such as a van, car, pick-up truck, or SUV. After a vehicle icon has been
selected, click on "specialty," and click on "agriculture." Follow the remaining
instructions. Those with no Internet access can visit a local driver's license
facility or call the SOS at 217.782.7758.
Standard ag specialty plates
(randomly assigned numbers and letters) cannot be ordered on line. The document
needed to order the standard ag specialty plate by mail or fax can be found at
www.cyberdriveillinois.com. At the top of the page, click on "departments."
Then click on "vehicle services." Next, click on "license plates," and then "specialty license plates." And finally click on the agriculture in the
classroom license plate which is the first plate pictured. Print the screen that
describes the fees for the standard plate, and circle the fee that applies. On
the back of the print out or on separate piece of paper indicate the desire to
have the ag specialty plate, name, mailing address, and phone number. Also
include current vehicle identification number and current license plate number.
Along with payment (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or check) also include
primary and secondary owner information: last name, driver's license number, and
last four digits of Social Security number. Mail the information to Secretary of
State, 501 South Second Street, Room 520, Springfield, IL 62756, Attention:
Charles. Or fax to Charles' attention at 217.785.1038
