FACTORS AFFECTING COMPETITIVENESS: ASSESSING SOUTH AMERICAN AGRICULTURE AND IMPROVING OUR OWN

January 21-February 2, 2018

The 2018 Illinois farm Bureau study tour, “Factors Affecting Competitiveness: Assessing South American Agriculture and Improving our Own”, will be held January 21 through February 2. Ten Illinois farmers will visit farms, ports, marketing and trading enterprises, biofuels and energy enterprises, and government agencies in both countries.

The objectives of the 2018 tour are to: 1) see how and where South American farmers are out-competing American farmers, 2) determine the major factors enhancing South American competitiveness (e.g., trade pact participation, investment in infrastructure, R&D, biofuels programs, farm policy, etc., and 3) develop effective leaders willing to be active spokespersons on those issues at the state and national level.
