Illinois Farm Bureau joined the Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Milk Producers’ Association and Illinois Pork Producers Association in submitting written comments Wednesday to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) on proposed Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation permit rules.
The seven-page letter included detailed comments related to draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for CAFOs.
The ag organizations stated “several provisions of the draft permit go beyond the regulatory authority as identified” by the four organizations.
The groups requested the draft permit be limited to existing state regulatory language and for IEPA “to not add new regulatory burdens on the regulated community through this effort.”
In addition, the four ag organizations continue to educate Illinois livestock farmers about the rules and “stand ready and willing to work alongside” IEPA to expand that education with updated permit requirements.
