Southern Illinois farmers Austin Flamm and Chris Eckert spoke with St. Louis NPR about how an unexpected cold spell in late December knocked out the majority of their peach crop.

"To have a loss as bad as we've had this year, it's very rare," said Flamm. "This is the worst loss we've had in about 16 seasons."

Eckert echoed similar sentiments, stating that it is hard to guess how much his orchard lost during the winter storm. "We're going to be pretty excited about half a crop -- if we can get that," he said.
