Our secret weapon
Illinois Farm Bureau members spent a week in Washington, D.C., connecting with legislators.
My favorite philosopher of all-time: Po from Kung Fu Panda.
He spends his time looking for the secret, and when he finally opens the scroll, it’s a mirror. The secret, all along, was himself.
At Illinois Farm Bureau, our secret is our members. Sixteen members just got back from a trip to Washington, D.C., where we connected our members directly with legislators. Boots-on-the-ground farmers telling real stories from their farms about the issues facing Illinois agriculture.
That’s the reason we're the #1 farm organization in Illinois, the reason decision-makers in Washington and Springfield grant us those meetings and give us that access. They know that the message doesn’t change. We’re a reliable source. We are saying the same thing to both sides of the aisle with no agenda other than pursuing our members' policies.
Thank you to our members who came to Washington to make an impact on behalf of Illinois agriculture. We continue to beat the drum for a new farm bill. After Congress files another extension, they act like I did on my term papers – they wait until the deadline to actually get started.
We need a legal, stable, reliable and affordable workforce. We need common-sense incentives for the biofuels market. We need year-round E15.
And legislators heard all of that, and more, straight from Illinois farmers. Our secret weapon.
